Drastic change in itinerary!

After looking at more train/ferry/bus/airplane timetables than we ever hope to look at again, we've made the decision to forego Croatia and Greece on this trip. It was a tough decision, as there are so many places in both countries that we both very badly want to visit, but it looks like if we want to get from one to the other it would involve at least 24 hours of train travel, most of which is not included in our passes, and then a minimum 16 hour ferry ride from Greece to Italy.

So a sad decision was made, but that just means we will be back in a few years. It also means we have a lot more time to spend in Italy, Spain, and Portugal (and possibly Morocco!).

Right now we are in Vienna, about to go out and explore the city. We'll be here for probably two more nights and then it looks like Venice has moved way way up in our itinerary!

  1. I feel for you. Having to spend extra time treking around Italy. You might have to add the Lakes region and Sicily. I feel your pain.

  2. I'm sure the return trip to Greece will be awful, too... Maybe I'll just have to go for you.

  3. This feels like someone is repeatedly stabbing my Croatian heart.

  4. So here's an interesting tidbit for you two...Providence WaterFire is going to Venice, Italy this month according to a story on the front page of the ProJo yesterday. Its creator, Barnaby Evans was invited as part of the closing ceremonies of this year's International Architecture Exhibition (a huge honor). Guess what Providence restaurant is hosting a fundraiser to raise money for the trip? Yes, your very own Bacaro!! The connections seem to be endless. So if you'll be in Venice on Nov. 19 and 20th it's taking place each evening along the Rio dell'Arsenale canal (the canal next to the main exhibition site).

Now to Luka...let's mend your wounded Croatian heart! I had discovered the beautiful Plitvice Lakes National Park when researching Croatia and planned on suggesting it to Marisa and Andy, along with Dubrovnik. Now that they VERY UNFORTUNATELY must miss the outstanding country of Croatia, I'll have to tag along with them on their next trip. An excellent excuse to head back over to your neck of the woods!
